Sep 3, Living Well on the Gluten Free Diet

The gluten free diet will not only help you heal, it will transform your health, in many unexpected ways. Simply follow a few tips and hints, and you will be amazed at how much better you feel, and how much your family's health is improved as well.

Cooking gluten-free meals at home may seem impossible when you can't use any of your recipes.

But don't despair: gluten free cooking requires mindfulness, and a few special ingredients, but not much else.

Many of us in the United States have become lazy cooks, using canned soups, prepackaged sauces and seasonings, ready-made side dishes, and other prepared foods.

As more and more people consider how they can improve their health and well-being, they have developed a growing awareness of the nutritional nightmare of packaged processed fats and chemicals sold as prepared food here in the US.

~*~*~*~

Adopting a gluten free lifestyle becomes much easier when you're connected - connected to resources, to information, to other people living gluten free. Get connected to the gluten free world: Gluten Free Connect.

~*~*~*~

People concerned about their health have turned to the wisdom of other cultures, where people prepare meals with healthful, fresh foods, locally produced whenever possible, and use only small quantities of minimally processed ingredients such as flours, baking soda, yeast and other items.

Even if you don't need to eat gluten-free, this culture of meal preparation from fresh wholesome foods will improve your health and well-being.

Just by making this change - no longer using mixes and prepared or processed food products - you are most of the way to making safe, nutritious, delicious gluten-free meals, at home and on a budget.

Learn about ethnic foods and preparing foods from traditional cuisines:

Ethnic Foods

Cuisines From Eastern Asia

Cuisines From Southeastern Asia

Cuisines From India and Western Asia

Part of the prepared-food mindset so prevalent in the United States lies with the FDA, the USDA and other US governmental agencies. By trying to control how food is sold and served, and also by catering to the lobbyists for huge agribusinesses, the food supply in the United States has long ago ceased to be healthful, wholesome or nutritious.

If you live outside the United States and Canada (since Canada has many of the same or similar influences as the United States), try returning at least to the principles of traditional diets. The cultures of most countries are supportive of this kind of lifestyle, at least to some degree.

If you live in North America, consider using farmer's markets, having a garden, and skipping the center of your grocery store. If you shop the outside perimeter of grocery stores in the United States, you will find all your whole foods and minimally processed foods there. You may have to search a bit for the organic foods, which are recommended, but even if you don't buy all organic, merely eliminating the packaged processed foods from your diet will revolutionize your health.

Look around your grocery store or supermarket next time you're there. You will find the produce, meat, and dairy foods on the perimeter of the store, and the packaged food up and down the aisles and in the other refrigerated cases. You will save money by foregoing the processed foods with mostly chemicals and empty calories, and have that much more money to spend on real foods like veggies, fruits, meats, cheeses, butter, eggs, yogurt and milk. Pick up teas and coffees, and stop at the liquor store for some bottles of wine too. And don't forget the herbs and spices.

You can return to a simpler diet based on traditional diets. When you cut out the processed, chemical-laden food substitutes, you don't have to worry about saturated fats, starches and sugars, calories or fiber. All those issues will balance themselves out on their own. You won't get too much or too little.

You also don't have to starve yourself. You can eat well, and fill up, without ever overeating. You can eat elegantly, if that is important to you. You can eat gluten free easily and without worry. You can manage your type 2 diabetes much more easily; you will move toward your ideal weight, blood pressure, cholesterol & triglyceride levels; and, you will look and feel better, without ever once feeling deprived.

You can eat well, save money, and improve your health, just by making these simple changes. Why would you ever consider anything else?

Symptoms of gluten intolerance are dangerous if not treated and diagnosed

Symptoms of intolerance gluten (a view from bottom)

The symptoms of intolerance gluten, correctly recognised and understood, can save you from diseases that destroy the quality of your life, because then you know what to do to get relief.

Gluten understands the Glutenin and gliadin proteins and they are present in wheat, barley and rye. Make no mistake about this. Gluten is a protein. This means that the gluten will also appear on products containing these grains.

Intolerance to gluten, which is a broad term that encompasses different types of intolerance to gluten, is the condition where the body is food digested difficulty containing gluten. Therefore, that you will find people who used interchangeably the terms gluten allergy, intolerance to gluten and coeliac disease. But there are differences.

Allergy symptoms gluten will look like other allergic responses and include sneezing, watery eyes, smelling etc.

However, the symptoms of gluten intolerance are completely different. Symptoms of gluten sensitivity manifests after a prolonged period of gluten and appear as a nutritional deficiency.

Celiac disease also triggers the immune system reactions similar to gluten intolerance. In fact, can be a negative for celiac disease and gluten intolerant. This is called Gluten sensitivity no-celiacos (NGGS). The totalnumber of people who have gluten intolerance, a small percentage will eventually show symptoms of celiac disease.

To make things worse, gluten intolerance is much diagnosed low and many doctors do not consider even looking for since the symptoms can be associated with many other conditions. Years ago until your doctor can stumble in the fact that it is gluten that is the problem.

The immune response to gluten damages the lining of the small intestine by flattening of the finger-like villi that actually absorb nutrients from food. When these villi are destroyed the ability to absorb any food it deteriorates and you will suffer symptoms of malnutrition. There will be problems for the body, and this is what makes intolerance to gluten or celiac disease so detrimental to quality of life.

When the visible damage in the intestine are slim in a biopsy is called enteropathy or celiac disease sensitive sprue or gluten celiac.

It is recommended that you consult your doctor to undergo tests to determine if you have disease celiac or gluten intolerant.

What are the symptoms of Gluten Intolerance?

Don't let this confuse you because now we are going to see specifically what is gluten intolerance signs. Inadequate digestion of nutrients, the walls of the intestine due to impaired will produce symptoms such as:

•Bloating

•Flatulence

•Abdominal pain

•Diarrhea or

•Constipation

•Itchy rash

•Pain in joints

Nausea (sometimes with vomiting)

•The infections such as colds, flu, sinus infections, eye infections such as conjunctivitis, vaginal infections and urinary tract infections. All because the function of the immune system is impaired when there is damage to the tissues in the intestine which houses much of the body's defenses.

•Excessive fatigue

•Weight loss

•Depression

There will also be nutritional deficiencies. For example you will experience:

1 anaemia without no apparent reason

2.B12 deficiency

3. low levels of calcium

4 Vitiamin D deficiency

5 magnesium deficiency

The great danger is that the mentioned conditions can each one treated in isolation and therefore the great and true picture cannot be seen.

Gluten sensitivity may be present in infants and older children and can be overlooked, or you think that children eventually outgrow the. This is dangerous because there are serious consequences to the poor absorption especially in children.

Signs of intolerance gluten in babies include:

a) muscle atrophy

(b) poor nutrition

(c) gases or swollen abdomen

(d) unusually slow weight gain

Older children you may notice:

a.Vomiting

b.Irritability

c.Lack of adequate food

constipation diarrhea d.Constant

As it was stated previously for adults, the misdiagnosis of gluten intolerance will exacerbate the problem when the solution is so incredibly simple. The removal complete their diet anyway gluten products.

This may be easy to say, but there is a growing industry free of gluten that makes this less agonizing step.

Apart form gluten products known as muffins, biscuits, bread, breaded fish, meats and poultry, cereals, cake, etc., you will be surprised to know that gluten can also be found in the following products:

• French fries

• Mixed drinks

• Tin of beans

• Sausages

• Ice cream

• Fruit fillings

• Beer

• Packaged cereals, even grain maize

• Commercially prepared broth

• Commercially prepared with chocolate milk

• Commercially prepared soup

• Pudding

• Sauce

• Chewing gum

• Hot dogs

• Flan

• Beer without alcohol

• Bologna

To prevent damage to your health and there are more attacks of these symptoms, should now be a close attention to everything that you eat.
